The Course Reflective Narrative
The second culture is something new, when I hear the name of Japan comes to mind, the first thing I think about is technology and sushi. The second culture class for me it was something new, new culture, new traditions and to be in contact with new students who have experience with Japanese culture. I liked most about the Japanese class I had the opportunity to know a part of Japan through a festival in Steinbeck Center Museum. I learned to make sushi, it's something very simple, the important thing that I really like sushi. Another thing that I had contact with the Taiko or drums. Taiko means drum, but the taiko has a very important meaning for the Japanese culture, the armies used it for signals, when the enemy approached. Shinto and Buddhist culture adopted it, tells the story that when listening to the sound of taiko is the voice of Buddha inside of Taiko and they consider it a sacred instrument. I also had an investigation about the Buddhist religion and it was very interesting, I had the opportunity to visit two Buddhist temples, one in San Jose and the other in Salinas, California. In my presentation I narrate the history of the two major religions in Japan Shinto and Buddhist. Finally, for my final project, I inquired about the taikos or drums. For me it was not very difficult for the reason that I once had experience with Taikos and attended events where there was participation of Taikos. I really like to learn from each event that I present. It is always good to learn from other cultures. Finally, I want add, that I went the tea ceremony at CSUMB. I had the opportunity to learn the process the tea ceremony and the meaning for the Japanese culture. The second culture class was interesting to learn about Japanese and I had the opportunity made a friendship with Japanese people. Something interesting that some Japanese people they are interesting to learn Spanish and I practice with them.
